Segantinis mountain panorama

Segantinihütte

Breathtaking views

Along the route from Muottas Muragl to the Segantini hut, hikers are treated to breathtaking views as they follow in the footsteps of the painter Giovanni Segantini, who retreated to the Schafberg hut above Pontresina in 1899 to complete his Alpine triptych for the forthcoming World Exhibition in Paris. Tragically, Segantini died unexpectedly of peritonitis in the hut. His Alpine triptych, Becoming-Being-Passing, can be admired in the Segantini Museum in St. Moritz.
Segantini’s last words are said to have been: “Voglio vedere le mie montagne” [I want to see my mountains]. These beloved mountains and the Upper Engadine lake landscape can be admired from the Segantini hut. This is an experience blending history, art, and nature, with a picturesque descent to Alp Languard and return to Pontresina.

For those who wish to take a less challenging route, the Panorama Trail offers an equally attractive option. The route begins with the ascent aboard the Muottas Muragl funicular railway, followed by a walk along the panoramic trail. About halfway along, you can take a well-earned rest at the Unterer Schafberg Restaurant. The route then continues to Alp Languard, where you have the option of taking the chairlift down to Pontresina.
