A Dedicated Terrazzo for the Maistra

Craftsmanship

The Hotel Maistra is getting a terrazzo floor. The special thing about it: the mixture of stones comes from the Bernina region and was put together especially for the new Maistra 160. A shiny green jade stone is particularly beautiful. The floor takes around four months to build up and gives the entrance area a unique texture. However, this only comes to light when the floor is sanded down.

The construction of a terrazzo floor is a craft that has been used since ancient times. The colors and patterns create a special atmosphere and give the hotel a harmonious and elegant aesthetic that was common in traditional grand hotels. A dedicated team of around nine people is installing the terrazzo under the direction of Christian Aubry and Lucrezia Zanetti. The pictures in this blog entry give an insight into their work.

Terrazzo floors are very hard-wearing and usually last for decades. They are also relatively easy to clean and only require occasional polishing to maintain their shine. At Hotel Maistra, the terrazzo floor welcomes guests - it creates a stylish, pleasant atmosphere and leaves a lasting impression.

Some of the most famous and impressive examples of this technique can be found in the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, the Chrysler Building in New York, the Palace of Westminster in London, the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum in Brazil designed by the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer or the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
