A Piece of Forever, A Piece of Home: When Stones Become Jewelry

Whether it’s nephrite jade from Selva, green diopside from Piz Lunghin, rhodonite from the Corvatsch region, or pink carbonate and sedimentary rock from Piz Alv—every stone in the “MAISTRA 160 Jewelry Collection” is one of a kind.

In collaboration with Michela Paganini, a certified gemologist and jewelry designer from Puschlav, stones from the Engadin and the southern slopes of the Bernina—Puschlav—were crafted into a unique jewelry collection featuring rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings.

And yet it’s not easy to craft jewelry from local stone. Michela Paganini herself says this about the challenge of this commissioned work:

“I’m grateful for this. I’ve learned to see our mountains through different eyes. They offer a wealth of fascinating minerals and gemstones. A miracle right on our doorstep, a gift from nature, a piece of eternity and home.”

The stones were cut in the workshop of Francesco Cortesi. Craftsmanship, creativity, and a touch of passion—that’s what Michela Paganini and her team at  Dolce Perla in Poschiavo stand for. The “Maistra 160” jewelry collection is available at the Maistra Concept Store.

Michela Paganini is a gemologist and jewelry designer. She is the founder and CEO of Dolceperla in Poschiavo. The first location, in the center of Poschiavo, opened in 2008. In addition to the showroom and retail space, the location also houses a workshop staffed by an experienced goldsmith. Today, the company has additional stores in St. Moritz and Zurich.

Did you know? The semi-precious stone jade (nephrite), for example, is found exclusively in the Valposchiavo region of Switzerland. The terrazzo floor at Hotel Maistra 160 also contains Puschlav jade. This makes it the first and only Bernina terrazzo floor!
