Blooming Beauty – A Weekend of Art, Design & History

May 06 2025
When art, design, architecture, history and nature come together, a space for new perspectives is created. On 14 and 15 June 2025, the hotel will be transformed into a stage for transdisciplinary exchange: on the aesthetics of flowers, on the power of beauty - and on the question of what gives us stability in a changing world.

Beauty as a Source of Meaning

In uncertain times, the desire for beauty grows - as a source of comfort, meaning and creative energy. We are exploring this phenomenon: with lectures, discussions, an artistic intervention and a high-calibre group of participants from the worlds of culture, design, architecture and science.

Historical Depth Meets Contemporary Design

The event will kick off with a lecture by Dr phil. Kurt Gritsch, Director of the Upper Engadine Cultural Archive, with a cultural-historical reflection on the Belle Époque as an era in which art and craftsmanship merged beyond mere ornamentation. In focus: the Engadin artist Kaspar Donatsch.

Afterwards, the hotel itself becomes a gallery: on a tour of the rooms, floral ceiling motifs by textile designers Martin Leuthold and Bernhard Duss become the starting point for a discussion about the connection between nature, art and architecture - with architect Gion A. Caminada and botanist Pit Altwegg also taking part.

The art historian and freelance curator Nicole Rampa opens up further perspectives on the floral motif in painting with her analysis of Keith Tyson's ‘Still Life with Rose Vase and Seashell’ as a contemporary reflection on transience and beauty. Master florist Claudia Lischer in turn approaches Louise Bourgeois' work “The Ticking of the Clock: The Heartbeat” in the form of a floral interpretation. Nature meets contemporary art.

Beauty as an Attitude

On Sunday, Prof Jan Teunen - editor, curator and thought leader - will focus on the philosophical dimension of beauty. In his plea, he invites us to rethink beauty as an essential creative force of our time.

Get creative: Open Workspaces & Workshop

Our Creative Box will be opening its doors to anyone who wants to get creative themselves: on Saturday, workspaces will be available for free use, while on Sunday, industrial designer Ramon Spaeti will introduce visitors to the harmony of nature in a creative workshop.

Save the date: 14 & 15 June 2025! An event for all those who not only want to see beauty, but also understand and design it.
