Christian Kathriner

A TALE OF MATTE BLACK SURFACES AND COLORFUL SEATING

Christian Kathriner (*1974), a freelance artist from central Switzerland, is an integral part of the Maistra 160 project team. While he enjoys solitary reflection in his studio, many of his works are designed as unique, tailor-made pieces for specific spaces and architectural settings. This process requires both openness and expertise as it involves collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, including architects, property owners, authorities, and builders.

He reflects on his collaboration with Gion Caminada: “What sets him apart is this rare mix of broad-mindedness and confidence. In our conversations, our knowledge, curiosity, weaknesses, ignorance, and willingness to learn come together like gears, driving the dialogue forward. If we were musicians, you might say that we are perfectly in tune!”

Christian Kathriner’s contributions to Hotel Maistra include:

  1. Hallway design on the three basement floors
  2. Furniture design for the Pöstlikeller
  3. Dialogue partner on the project team
