The waterfall path “Cascada da Bernina"

Walking around Morteratsch

Translated from Rhaeto-Romanic, “Cascada” means waterfall. The Ova da Bernina mountain stream plunges over two hundred meters towards the bottom of the valley. In addition to this roaring spectacle, visitors to the waterfall trail can discover some pioneering technical achievements. The hike leads up to several waterfall viewing platforms and offers spectacular views of the Bernina Massif. The Rhaetian Railway also negotiates the tight curves and historic viaducts along the route, all without the help of cogwheels.

The route to the waterfalls is suitable for leisurely walks from Pontresina and Morteratsch or as a section of the Via Valtellina, a long-distance hiking trail that follows the path of the former mule route.
