Hotel Maistra caters to the wishes, desires, and needs of a new generation of guests in a rapidly evolving world.
Its style is High-Alpine, minimalist, and distinctly original, shaped by the signature of renowned Grisons architect Gion A. Caminada. Unique architecture meets High-Alpine living, no-nonsense design, and purpose, creating a resonant and meaningful experience for our guests. Just some of the reasons that the Maistra has become a “must-see” Alpine destination.
The kitchen concept combines regional products with exciting flavors and current food trends – in the spacious restaurant, the Arvensaal, the lounge, and on the Maistra Terrace. The hotel bar, the regulars' table, and an event room as a revival of the popular 'Pöstlikeller' are lively meeting points. Other highlights include the curated library, the Creative Box, and the Maistra Concept Store with "Bubbles & Cakes".

The unique spa infrastructure is arranged on two floors around a cloister open to the sky. It consists of an atrium with an open fire, an open-air warm water pool, a bio sauna, a Finnish sauna, a large basalt steam bath and a relaxation room with a sun deck. Yoga, fitness and gymnastics rooms complete this fascinating world where the elements of nature, heat, cold, water, fire, stone, air and earth come together.
With its wide range of facilities and as an open, lively meeting point in the middle of the village, the Maistra 160 creates added value for Pontresina, its guests, locals and employees.

«With my architecture, I want to create spaces worth living in»
Says the renowned architect Gion A. Caminada, who was recruited as the designer architect for the Maistra project. Caminada lives and works in his home village of Vrin deep in the heart of Val Lumnezia. He was also a full professor of architecture and design at ETH Zurich from 2008-2023. “No compromise, but the best possible option” is one of his convictions. Gion A. Caminada has received various awards and accolades for his work.
These include the award for good buildings in the canton of Graubünden, the timber construction prize and the Prix Meret Oppenheim. Caminada unpretentiously combines traditional materials and methods with contemporary design, innovation and a strong sense of place. He has mastered the art of creating resonant spaces with his pared-down architectural style. In doing so, he opens up new perspectives for building in alpine regions. “Strong places touch us,” he says, ”create a sense of belonging and identity.
